Mrs. Verna Christine Nelson of 1816 9th St., Rock Island, died at 10:07 p.m. Saturday at the Illinois Research Hospital, Chicago, where she had been a patient for the past two weeks. She had been ill for the past year-and-a-half.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Knox-Larson Funeral Home, Rock Island. The Rev. Fred Rolf, Rock Island, will officiate. Burial will be in Rock Island Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call after noon tomorrow at the funeral home.
Mrs. Nelson was born Oct. 4, 1905, in Gastrickland, Sweden, a daughter of Axel and Anna Skeppstedt. She lived in Sweden until age 12 when she moved to the United States and the Quad-Cities in 1917. She had resided in Rock Island since 1920. She received her education in public schools in Sweden. She was married to Charles A. Nelson, June 6, 1938, in Muscatine, Iowa. He died June 21, 1964. She was of Lutheran faith. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Svithoid Lodge, Moline, and a former member of the Mothers of World War II.
Surviving are two sons, Sgt. Edward A Beckman, Savanna, Ill., and Charles E. Nelson, Rock Island; a daughter, Mrs. Kenneth L. Freistat, with whom she resided; four grandchildren, and a brother, Freide Skeppstedt, Cottage City, Md.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and two grandchildren.
